The Cathedral’s Legacy of Faith - Building for the Future

A comprehensive vision for the future: Cathedral & School

Guided by a cross-section of community leaders, our rector and bishop are bringing the whole Sacred Heart family into the future with this plan of renovation & construction. Work has begun!

Phase 1: Additions to Sacred Heart Cathedral School

Ground was broken on August 19th! Some of the existing structure has been cleared for new and better additions.

Space is being made for greater art & music education. A chapel will be built so that a class can easily step into God’s presence for prayer in the day. A new lobby and office area will allow our students to access administrators in a secure, locked environment. Following changes, the Morning Star students will come to occupy what is currently the office area.

Phase 2: Renovating the Cathedral Church

Work on the Cathedral is slated to begin this Winter.

Renovations will occur in the Cathedral sanctuary, in the lobby, and for better restrooms. The liturgical artists, Rambusch Company, have been tasked with pulling all the visual elements into greater harmony & cohesion. Attention is being given to capitalize on the Spanish-Romanesque style of the structure. The two transepts will be opened up for more depth & height. A new apse behind the altar will be highlighted with a stained glass window of Jesus and his Sacred Heart.

Phase 3: Expanding the Parish Office Complex

The Parish Office Complex, including Ave Maria Hall, was constructed about 20 years ago. Demand for prayer groups, parish events, music rehearsal, and receptions continue to exceed our current facility capacity. Thus, additions of adult classrooms and meeting rooms are planned for the existing structure.

Project Costs and Fundraising

The total project costs are projected at $5.7 million. The Cathedral Parish is seeking to raise $2 million from our local community. We are over 75% of the way to our goal. Parish & school savings, combined with some financing, will pay for the rest.

Joy Gordon Construction is managing demolition and construction for the additions at the Cathedral School.
