Our Cathedral campus has served generations of parishioners and students. Today, we have the opportunity to strengthen that foundation for the future.
This project will occur as a multi-phase vision. Phase 1: The New 12th Avenue Experience, Phase 2: Classroom Additions and Future Phase: School Gym.
This campaign seeks to raise $3 million to complete the first phases of our campus master plan — improving campus connectivity, safety, accessibility, and expanding classroom space for our growing school community.
These investments not only meet the needs of today, but also prepare the way for future phases of growth, including the long-term vision of a gymnasium that would be part of a future campaign.
Phase 1: The New 12th Avenue Experience
What is the goal of the new 12th Avenue Experience?
A more cohesive campus between the Cathedral & Sacred Heart Cathedral School
New sidewalk entry plazas and tree canopy at street corners to shorten crosswalks and increase safety
New bump outs to protect parking and reduce pedestrian exposure to traffic
Angled parking spaces and street trees to create edge friction, slowing down vehicular traffic along 12th Ave
When will the project start?
The earliest anticipated start date for the 12th Avenue parking improvements is May 30th/June 1st. We expect this phase to take 10-12 weeks.
The classroom construction will begin in June after the school year ends. The classroom phase will take approximately 10-11 months to complete - see Phase 2 in next section.
Where will I park during construction?
1. The existing parking lot will be partially available until classroom construction begins - see graphic below for construction vs parking areas.
2. The Avery Street lot is available now and will continue to be available for weekend Masses (see map to the right).
3. We are also fortunate to be located in a walkable neighborhood with street parking throughout - please be mindful of our neighbors and do not block any driveways.
Parking Area (blue) - parking open for weekend Masses
Laydown Area (lime) - location of construction equipment, no parking
Please be mindful of no access points. For your safety, please follow the safe routes to enter the Cathedral via Mallory St.
The yellow and orange sections highlighted in front of the main Cathedral entrance will be demolished and repaved in separate phases to avoid blocking the entrance for an extended period of time.
Phase 2: Classroom Additions
Why are we building more classrooms?
With an average of 35-45 infant baptisms per year over the past 5 years, our church family continues to thrive and grow. This is a blessing and a responsibility. How can we, as a parish and school community, gather, protect, and form our children just as Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, gathers, protects and forms us? Our mission as a parish is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, and our mission as a school is to educate hearts and minds for God. Our actions and decisions must flow from this purpose as we listen to God’s call in serving our children.
Currently, there is one only one Kindergarten grade class, one First grade, one Second grade, and one Third grade; additional classrooms will allow us to have two full classes for each grade Kindergarten through eighth and serve more of our Parish families.
How many classrooms will Phase 2 consist of?
Four new classrooms will sustain the academic rigor our families expect, reduce overcrowding, and open our doors to families who are actively seeking a Catholic education for their children. These are not simply rooms with desks, pencils and books —they are places of encounter, where young hearts learn perseverance, truth, and wisdom in an environment ordered toward God.
Alongside those four classrooms, we will build two new Morning Star classrooms designed specifically for students with unique needs.
When will the project start?
The classroom construction will begin in June 2026 after this school year ends. The classroom phase will take approximately 10-11 months to complete.
The Next Chapter: School Gym
The improvements we make today lay the groundwork for future phases of campus growth, including a gymnasium that would one day provide space for athletics, youth ministry, parish events, and community gatherings.
A future phase will create a large multipurpose space that will include a full-sized basketball court and further improve school safety with a new office and administration wing, creating a new school entrance to receive visitors.
Once our essential foundation is established through Phases 1 and 2, we will be able to focus on the next chapter to complete our campus’ master plan.
